Itinerary
Bikingtour in Spain

Day 1

Arrive Madrid International Airport and transfer to the hotel in Avila. There may be some time in the afternoon for sightseeing around the historical town of Avila, once you have unpacked and settled into your room. This amazing, little town can be found on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. We make time to adjust the bicycles and, if you like, have a short ride to test the bikes (and your legs)! We will organize the evening meal at the hotel and make introductions, discuss the adventure awaiting us, and perhaps even learn a little Spanish! After the end of a long day of travel, a good night’s rest will be in order.

The first night you will stay at the Hotel Palacio del los Velada. Well known for its great atmosphere.

Day 2 / Avila – Segovia, approx. 75 km

After a hearty breakfast we will meet briefly to discuss the day’s schedule. You will begin this very first day with a round tour in the old town of Avila, hopefully escorted by the local cycling club and its founder – the great, former cyclist Carlos Sastre, who won the Tour de France in 2008.

A total ride of approximately 75 km. The ride from Avila will take you through a landscape surrounded by beautiful mountains. You will enter Segovia via its amazing Roman aqueduct, before arriving at your charming hotel, Hotel Los Linajes, located in the old quarter. There is time in the afternoon for sightseeing in this unique town that is full of history. Segovia can also be found on the UNESCO Heritage List. Dinner at a local restaurant that serves great, local food.

Day 3 / Segovia – Mataelpino, approx. 65 km

Today you will ascend the mountain of Sierra Madrid. There will be a great climb of almost 800 meters of altitude that will take you over the mountain pass of Navacerrada. During the Winter time, this is the closest ski resort for all lovers of alpine skiing in the Madrid area. Enjoy a well deserved lunchbreak on the very top of the mountain, with spectacular panoramas all the way down to our spa hotel. A stage of approximately 65 km.

Maybe a prebooked treatment will be in order! (NB. Book at least 4 weeks in advance.)

Finish the day with a view over the lake and hearty three course meal.

Day 4 / Mataelpino – Madrid, approx. 65 km

Rise early for breakfast and pack your things, as today you will depart for the finish line – the capital of Madrid. Start biking as soon as your bags are loaded in the van, on a route of about 65 km, along the beautiful lake of Embalse de Manzanares. From here, follow the cycle lane that takes you along the main road to the city center of Madrid. You will probably see many local bikers joining you for the last 30 km towards your hotel, situated close to the city center.

The hours before dinner will be perfect for sightseeing in downtown Madrid. The whole group will gather together before the farewell dinner, to celebrate our newly made friends and all the great experiences we enjoyed on the tour.

Farewell dinner at a restaurant close to our hotel.

Hotel Florida Norte.
